IBCLC stands for International Board Certified Lactation Consultant — aka, the ultimate breastfeeding nerd.
We’re healthcare professionals who specialize in human lactation (yes, that’s a whole science!), trained to help with everything from the first latch to complex feeding challenges.

An IBCLC has completed extensive clinical hours, advanced education, and rigorous board certification to become the gold standard in lactation care. We understand anatomy, physiology, infant feeding behavior, and how all those beautiful hormones—like oxytocin and prolactin—work together to make milk magic happen.

How do I prepare for a consult?

First things first — you don’t need to scrub the house or put on real pants.
We’re here for real life, not Pinterest perfection.

Your visit is all about meeting you and your baby where you are — whether that’s in your cozy pajamas, surrounded by bottles and burp cloths, or mid-cluster feed with a coffee in hand.

Here’s How to Get Ready (Without Stress)

1. Feed your baby if they’re hungry — or wait if we’ve planned to observe a feeding.
Don’t stress about timing; we’ll make it work either way.

2. Have your feeding tools nearby.
That means your pump, bottles, nipple shield, or anything else you’ve been using. We’ll nerd out over your setup and make sure it’s working for you.

3. Gather your questions.
No topic is too weird, too TMI, or too science-y. Write them down if you’d like so we can cover them all.

4. Be comfy.
If we’re meeting in person, wear what makes you feel relaxed. If it’s virtual, grab your phone, good lighting, and a spot where you can prop up baby.

5. If your partner or support person can join — awesome!
We love involving your whole feeding team.

A Few Extra Nerd Notes

  • I’ll be asking a lot of medical and feeding-related questions (things like your pregnancy, delivery, medications, and baby’s history). Don’t worry if you can’t remember everything right away — we’ll go step-by-step together.

  • If we’re meeting in person, I’ll need a flat, stable surface (like a table or counter) to set up my scale for your baby’s pre- and post-feeding weights. This helps us measure how much milk your baby transfers during a feeding — one of our favorite science-backed tools!
